WordPress 3.0 for SQL Server & SQL Azure Status

The release of WordPress 3.0 has made this an exciting week for the WordPress community. We’ve been working with the Beta and RC’s for the past few months and we love it!

One of the things I really like about open source projects is the recognition individuals get for their contributions.  I think it’s great to see all of the Committers to WordPress 3.0 get called out on the WordPress Blog.

If you’re running the WordPress on SQL Server patch from this site, you may be wondering why you don’t see an option to upgrade to 3.0 in your WordPress Admin. Anthony Gentile from OmniTI wrote this article explaining how the upgrade process works when you’re running the WordPress on SQL Server patch.

The team is heads down working on some really cool stuff, including Selenium Tests, 3.0 Support and a PDO Translation Layer. We want to get the Selenium Tests done and run the PDO Translation Layer and 3.0 Support through these tests before triggering upgrades for people running WordPress on SQL Server or SQL Azure.

Expect to see these goodies rolling out over the next few weeks.

  1. [...] a ton of SQL errors, and some of the URL rewriting for permalinks is not working correctly. Also, support for WordPress 3.x is not available yet, which isn’t surprising given that WP 3.0 was only released a few days [...]

I have the latest 3.0 beta but find I cannot remove posts. The default entry to be more precise. It tells me it moves to trash, but it still shows up. Something I should check?

Hi – we have been very excited about the possibilities of installing WordPress 3.0 on our Windows Enterprise Environment but as a couple have comments have posted out there are still some lingering issues. Is there any update since the beta patch that came out on 06-18? Thank you so much for the time and effort on this project.

  4. @Josh, Sorry for the delay… We have just been waiting to do some final testing on the upgrade process but everything is pretty much set. You can get the latest bits here https://sourceforge.net/projects/wp-sqlsrv/files/

Zach – great news thank you so much for all the work that has been put into this project

Is anyone else getting their error that when you create a post or page, the authorid gets entered as 0? In the wp_post table the author = 0 so the admin author of 1 doesn””t show up.

I ran the same thing on mysql and there was no issue.

is there a date for wordpress 3.0 update?

  9. Curtis says:

Still wondering when the WordPress 3.0 support will become available….

  10. Andreas says:

I was wondering if there is a release date for 3.01 because I would love to get rid of Apache in my compnay and run WordPress on our SQL cluster. My company just doesn””t want to go back to 2.x.

  11. Lloyd says:

    Hi Guys,

Any news on WordPress 3.0 support?

90% of the themes i activate don””t support version 2.9.2.. tempted to revert to MySQL..

    Thanks,
    Lloyd.

  12. Steve says:

I love this idea but I can””t justify using an older version of WordPress. When will the bits for 3.0+ be ready? Thanks!

  13. Susan says:

I hate to be a me too here but me too.

What””s the scoop on this project?

I want to use SQL but this is holding me back.

  14. Liam says:

I wanted to install this (wordpress with SQL Server) on my own server. I first installed the version (beta) which is the one currently linked on the main download on this site. That worked great… but,, being new to this… I didn””t realize the significance of it being 2.9x and not 3.x. So… I went looking for the 3.x version. Found this page. Didn””t look very promising from the posts and how old the information posted by Microsoft about this.

Well… I decided just to remove my initial install and install the the 3.0.1 beta instead anyway. It seems to be working… although I have not done a lot of testing.

Just thought this should be posted in case others come to this page thinking the 3.x version doesn””t work at all. If I find any bugs or gotchas I””ll post an update.

In the meantime… it would be nice for an official update from Microsoft on this.

    Thanks!

    -Liam

I promised to get back here with feedback on using the 3.0.1 Beta version. It””s going pretty well so far and it seems to work pretty well with all the plugins/widgets and themes I have tried so far. Check out the linked web site to see the site in action.

Oddly I am unable to view the list of users configured in my site (the Users page has an error “no matching users were found”. I can add new users just fine. I am taking a wild guess this might have something to do with me having multiple sites on my server – and I am using a custom table prefix.

  16. Howie says:

You guys still working this??? Looking to possibly move development site to sqlserver but would like to know if WP 3.X versions will work.

  17. Richard says:

    WordPress 3.2 ??? I need the multi-site functionality…

Thanks for all the work thus far. WordPress on MySQL works great. WordPress on SQL Server is perfect us .net folks. But, if we can”t continue upgrading to newer versions, this effort will be pointless.

  18. Looking for free down of WordPress 3.x

  19. Carlos Franco says:

    Hello,

Where can I find the wordpress version 3.0 to sql. available for download.

  20. I.G. Romov says:

Step # 3 of http://wordpress.visitmix.com/development/installing-wordpress-on-sql-server needs to go to a FAIL site. It points to a nice pretty box (upper right) that allegedly gives you choices of ditribution or patch and even a readme to help you choose. However, clicking on any of these leads to a nondescrept line thats not even clickable that effectively says go here for plugins upon which there is basically nothing to help this approach. Would someone confirm with a simple yes or no IS THIS PROJECT DEAD??
